scientific interests:

He has been a researcher at the Institute of Environmental Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Zabrze (Poland) since 1988. His research interests include: the use of instrumental methods, in particular ion chromatography in the study of environmental, food and biomedical samples. Since 2005, he has been organizing and chairing the Scientific Committee of international conferences on the theory and applications of ion chromatography. He is the author or co-author of 25 books and monographs, 52 chapters in monographs, 67 publications in international journals from the IF, 52 publications in other peer-reviewed scientific journals and 128 articles in popular science magazines.

He completed several scientific internships, including a year in Japan at Tohoku University (post doctoral fellowship, 2000-2001), in Wiesbaden, Cluj Napoca, Bilbao and Thesalloniki.  Since 2007, he has been a representative of the Polish Academy of Sciences in the European Academies Science Advisory Council, the Environmental Steering Panel, and a member of the National Committee for Cooperation with the Scientific Advisory Council of the European Academies (since 2010). Since 2016, he has been a member of the Analytical Chemistry Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences, in 2 Technical Committees of the Polish Committee for Standardization, the Polish Chemical Society, as well as the Chairman of the Scientific Council of the National Chamber of Commerce of the Bottling Industry and a member of Natural Mineral Waters Europe.

He is the winner of numerous awards, including the prestigious KChA PAN award. A. Waksmundzki, and a medal for services to Polish Analytical Chemistry. In 2025, he received a badge of honor for his services to the development of the economy of the Republic of Poland, awarded by the Minister of Economy. Since 2020, he has been listed in the World's Top 2% Scientists database every year. He is a representative of IEE PAS in the Doctoral Education Council of the "Joint Doctoral School" of the Silesian University of Technology. In the years 2012-2016 and 2024-2026 he serves as Deputy Scientific Director of IEE PAS.
